Sarah Robus

Family Law Lawyer

Before starting her own practice in Collingwood, Sarah first worked as an associate lawyer at a boutique family law firm in Port Credit and then transitioned to a mid-sized firm servicing Toronto, Barrie and Collingwood.  From her articles onwards, Sarah has worked exclusively in family law.  She advocates for clients through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation regarding a wide range of family law issues. Although settlement is always the preferred route, sometimes an agreement cannot always be reached. In these instances, Sarah has the experience to litigate through complex family law issues and regularly appears before the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice. Although her practice takes her to the courtroom often, Sarah uses collaborative and alternative processes whenever possible to strategically negotiate agreements that are mutually beneficial for all parties involved.  Sarah has dealt extensively in family law cases pertaining to property division, child and spousal support, and parenting issues. When it comes to parenting issues, Sarah recognizes the lifelong ties that co-parents are faced with after separation. She endeavours to ensure that the involvement of lawyers strengthens the ability for parties to work together for the sake of their children, rather than inflame the conflict between them.  Sarah’s priority is ensuring that her clients are able to make an informed decision about the issues that impact their lives the most, and that their rights are preserved and respected in any final agreement.   Before obtaining her J.D. at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, Sarah completed an Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences with Specialization in Criminology. Her familiarity with the criminal justice system provides her with an informed approach to family files that involve criminal charges and allegations of family violence.  Sarah is settlement-focused and understands that negotiating the resolution of a family law matter can be an emotional and challenging experience for her clients.  Her honest and approachable manner places clients at ease and contributes to her success in achieving her client’s goals. Outside of the office, Sarah enjoys traveling, skiing, and hanging out with her black lab, Fitz.

Katelyn Bell

Family & Education Law Lawyer

Before starting her own practice at Robus Bell LLP, Katelyn worked at a mid-sized Toronto based firm as a family law associate lawyer.  Katelyn attended law school at the University of Ottawa always with the aim to work directly with adults and children and help them navigate what can often be a very stressful, challenging and emotional legal process.  Katelyn’s passion for the practice of family law has not wavered since; though she has developed a busy practice in education law along the way. As an education law lawyer, Katelyn represents students of all ages and areas of study, both in the private and public school sectors. Katelyn is committed to working with her clients to determine the best strategy for their challenging educational legal issues, ranging from matters of suspension, bullying, expulsion, harassment, failure to accommodate, and more. Having obtained an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science Degree from the University of Guelph with a focus in psychology and family studies prior to her completing law school, Katelyn understands the important role she plays in assisting her clients with divorce, parenting, property and other financial legal issues stemming from a familial separation. Katelyn is knowledgeable and experienced, having successfully represented her clients at all levels of Court in Ontario, including the Ontario Court of Appeal. Katelyn also regularly appears before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and the Child and Family Services Review Board. Katelyn practices often in a litigation-based setting, but she always remains committed to cost-effective and timely solutions for her clients which will often mean engaging in an alternative dispute resolution process such as mediation or arbitration.  Katelyn is also a panel lawyer for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer, representing the needs and interests of children across Simcoe County and Grey Bruce.  Katelyn’s approachable and practical mannerisms have earned her much respect and confidence amongst clients and counsel. Her biggest supporters however are her family, which includes her aussiedoodle and her sheepadoodle. Katelyn adores all animals but especially dogs; she loves travelling anywhere to chase the sunshine; and she thoroughly enjoys reading or watching a spicy true crime drama.

Paw Clerks

Fitz

Fitz is a purebred black labrador, who like most labs, has an insatiable appetite. He provides his pawalegal services in exchange for treats. Fitz is a proud Muskoka-born boy, and so the concept of beginning his own firm in Simcoe County was an easy sell. When Fitz is not snacking or working on legal memoranda, he enjoys hiking through the town's local trails and socializing with his best friend and colleague, Nala.

Nala

Nala is a small but mighty mini sheepadoodle. Nala has a passion for people, and takes a client-centred approach to everything she does. Nala is committed to making the office environment less stressful and more enjoyable. In her spare time when she is not paw clerking for Robus Bell LLP, Nala enjoys chasing squirrels in her backyard in Collingwood, bossing around her colleague Fitz, and cuddling with her mom and dad.
